WHITLEY BAY - NEED TO STAY NEAR THE ICE RINK ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Have an event at the Ice rink shortly and need to stay nearby. Found some cheap deals in Newcastle and North Shields - is this too far? Would prefer somewhere with a pool and maybe a few shops around.

Is Newcastle too far to travel to Whitley Rink?

There isn't anywhere within walking distance that I can think of... the nearest one with a pool is The Village (about 5 miles away approx) its newish has a bar restaurant but is in an industrial estate. there are plenty of hotels and b&bs in Whitley bay and some shops and bars. After Whitley bay it goes cullercoats, then tynemouth - you could try the grand it's in the sea front and there's a fabulous beach cafe on the beach below but no pool. Then it's North Shields but don't bother with that. After that Newcastle has the best nightlife and is about £10/15 away in a taxi
