Many years ago(ds was 2 ish) and it was fine . Friends go back same week every year and apparently both the decor and food have improved since we went.

Thanks Lizs. Must be good if they go every year!

We went a couple of years ago - the food was acceptable, swimming pool a bit disappointing. Our room was two rooms and the boys had a bunk bed which was fine.

The ladies in the kids club were lovely and had been there for years. They dealt very efficiently and gently with our two reluntanct boys. We loved the evening sessions, so we took them to kids club at 7pm ish, had dinner, picked them up at 9.30 and delivered two very happy tired boys straight to bed where they slept without any complaints.

We had lunch at the sister hotel - Bedruthan Steps, which was more classy, had longer hours in the kids club, better quality food and an indoor soft play area for rainy days. If we did it again we would probably go there as opposed to Sands, but at the moment are having a holiday free year.

But I love the concept - you really do get a break on a holiday and get to be with the kids as well.

Thanks Kaz - why was the pool disappointing? Will also check out Bedruthan Hotel too.

Bedruthan is lovely (went to swim there from Sands when a child threw up in the pool!) but much more £££. Friends go there year after year too - a bit more Boden-esque and posher than Sands

Merlin · 07/02/2007 18:00

Oh no Lizs (whisper) I don't have a thing from Boden! - would we fit in?!!!

The pool was a little smaller than I expected, but to be honest my kids weren' very interested in swimming.

When we had lunch at Bedruthan, David Baddiel was there with his glam wife and sproglet.

I suppose Sands is more down to earth, but kids are a great leveller and I think you get the most brownie points for well behaved children.

lol, Rowland Rivron was at Sands when we went ! He'd done a review for the Holiday programme earlier that summer and still gone back. btw Bedruthan Steps gets very booked up during the school summer holidays and regulars book up to 2 years ahead.

Have just booked Sands for a week in the summer holidays. We went there two years ago and thought it was great, very child friendly and lots of do nearby. My 7 yr old had a ball and is very much looking forward to going back this year.

Out of interest I got a quote from Bedruthan Steps for the same week, and it was double what we're paying for Sands (£3000 as opposed to £1500 for dinner, bed and breakfast for 2 adults and 3 children). I know that the food at BS is probably a bit better and perhaps the accommodation is better but this does seem an awful lot more to me.
