2 adults, 2 kids, no pets for August 2017. Would be good if walking distance to beach, shop, pub and centrally located for the main attractions, although we will have car. Would like somewhere nice but really don't want to spend more than 1k for a week.

Seahouses, Bamburgh of Embleton all great locations on the coast. Suggest you book soon as cottages tend to be booked well in advance.

Agree with above, look at springhill farm in seahouses - absolutely beautiful cottages

Beadnell

We stayed here this summer, not by the coast but only 15 mins from Bamburgh (nearest beach). I would absolutely recommend it, it was lovely. Just us and DD but it was great.

birdsdestiny · 01/10/2016 21:37

Beadnell is lovely.

Thank you for the suggestions so far - keep em coming!

There is a little group of cottages originally built for workers called the Armstrong Cottages, in Bamburgh - several of them are now self-catering and they all look lovely. We have stayed in one and my exSIL has stayed in at least two or three of them. Opposite the dunes leading to the beach. Very close to Abmburgh (20 min walk or 5 min drive). Basically perfect!

Wigeon · 02/10/2016 08:51

We stayed in this one - it was really good.

Wigeon · 02/10/2016 08:51

If you google you can find most of the others (they are owned separately so on offer through different websites).

Wigeon · 02/10/2016 08:52

Close to BAMBURGH not Abmburgh Hmm

hyperhypermum · 02/10/2016 09:38

Wigeon - I had bookmarked that very one, looks perfect. Sadly, it's already booked for the whole of August 201u 😣

Whenever I see requests for Northumberland cottages I have to mention Breamish Valley Cottages. It's not on the coast and think about 20 min drive away, possibly more BUT the cottages are so lovely. Really high standard and there is a lovely indoor pool, games room, good cycle routes and a lovely pub in the local village about 4 miles away (will look up the name).

Check it out anyway, we've been for last two wedding anniversaries and stayed in castle close and near brow.

cluecu · 15/10/2016 11:21

Village with the lovely pub is Eglingham and the cottages are in Powburn Smile

It depends on the sort of holiday you want, but did you know that there are cottages on Lindisfarne?

Pootles2010 · 20/10/2016 10:25

Armstrong cottages are lovely but quite a walk to the village - we preferred this one www.northumbria-cottages.co.uk/property/charlton-cottage

hyperhypermum · 20/10/2016 22:58

Looks fab, but unfortunately booked up for nearly the whole of August already! Who are these people who book their holidays nearly a year in advance??

I'd sy central bamburgh is the best location - amazing beach, nice shops and a really lovely village without getting into the car
