day trip without kids near london?

me and Dh actually have a day off without the kids!!!!! last time we went to Cambridge and had a lovely day pottering round the shops and lunch in a pub before tootling back home.

We'd like to go somewhere different, but about the same distance as Cambridge (from London). Any suggestions?

Canterbury is good. There are loads of little restaurants. We had a great meal in a little Italian that was right by the start of the ghost tour.
