Family fun within an hour's drive from Cardiff

We have our itinerary for Cardiff itself planned but also looking at things to do outside the city.

The Walesonline site has a few ideas but looking for anyone who has a tried and tested suggestion?

We will be travelling with DD (3) and DS (10 months). Ideally looking for something outdoorsy as I would like ot do a bit of walking but will have a pushchair. So far Dare Valley Park looks quite nice and has a pushchair friendly walking trail but Margam Country Park seems to have more child friendly things to do (adventure playground, railway and farm ). Anyone been to either place? We will be visiting over the August Bank Holiday.

Thank you!

St Fagans?

Margam is great and well worth a visit, we go there loads. You can make it a full day out. I've never been to Dare Valley but it's on my list of things to do this summer! I'm trying to work out which beach would be good from Cardiff? I'm further West but I reckon the gower might be too far really. aberafan is a nice clean beach with a splash Park and normal Park if you can get past the crap area it's in

Caerphilly Castle?

Thanks! Margam is definitely on the list and will look into St Fagans. I love castles but not sure we will have enough time.

There's a place I'm caerphilly that has a gruffalo trail... lots of activities for kids too.
I cannot for the life of me remember the name!

Yes that's it!
Really nice for a walk but they do close it sometimes if the weather is really bad x
