Wiltshire / Dorset

DH and I have a week off in early October and fancy renting a cottage somewhere in the South of England. We don't want to drive an immensely long way and, as we live in the North West, we have decided Devon / Cornwall too far. However, we quite fancy the Wiltshire / Dorset area.

We like walking, visiting interesting towns and cities and we are NT members.

I was thinking:

  • Stonehenge (but maybe including that as a longer walk on Salisbury Plain)
  • Salisbury - particularly the Cathedral
  • Jurassic Coast
  • Bournemouth

Can anyone recommend any other interesting days out, properties to visit, walk suggestions in these areas?

Suggestions of good locations to base ourselves in would be welcome.

If it were me I would do two/three days based in Avebury and visiting Stonehenge etc then down to Dorchester (lovely museum), Maiden Castle, Corfe Castle and then Lyme Regis. Lovely holiday!

I would stay at Avebury, inside the circle, lovely!
