Picnic spot near Richmond, North Yorkshire

Driving to Northumberland in a couple of weeks and looking for a picnic spot around the vicinity of Richmond, easily accessible from the A1, with toilets and decent outside space for the DC to run around. Can anyone recommend somewhere?

If you come off the A1 at Scotch Corner and head west on A66, a little way down the road there's a little garden centre with a cafe and play area that looks really nice if not too far out of your way.
I haven't been yet, just had it recommended to me, and sadly I can't even tell you it's name as I was just told to look out for the camel and the sheep on the roof Grin

It's very good. Called mainsgill farm. Or I'm sure there is a park in Richmond.

Ah that garden centre looks good but they have a strict no picnic policy and I'm too tight to buy lunch Grin
