Have the chance to get away for two nights without dd but don't want to be far from home.
Anyone got any reccomendations-good food, wine and spa but not as expensive as the Grove?

Does anywhere like this exist?

Lucky you!!
Was going to suggest the grove but then saw your post, the other one that I went to long before dd came along was Hanbury Manor . Not sure of the cost or what the sap is like now...

SickJealousandWorried · 23/01/2007 10:01

Thank you-any other suggestion?

I enjoyed a fun day/night with dh at Danesfield House . Lovely place IMO, we did some serious splashing out (last pre-baby fling) and went for a posher room which did cost a fortune but was huge with an enormous bed and looked out over a beautiful terrace/balcony thing (ask for one of those, maybe). Spa seemed quite big and busy, but great anyway.

Can't think of anything bad to say about it, but then again these days a night in a Travelodge is our idea of exotic holidays!

Nutfield Priory, near Redhill

SickJealousandWorried · 23/01/2007 10:20

ooh both of those look lovely-sadly spa fully booked at Danesfield

Anyone tried the MacDonald hotel in Ascot-can't remember what it's called

Pennyhill? Meant to be lovely.

Ladymuck · 23/01/2007 11:50

Which side of London are you? We stayed at the Vineyard at Stockcross recently which is lovely but might be on the expensive side. I think a one night stay incl dinner was about £800 but we went for the tasting menu (absolutely superb but probably about £300 incl wine)

SickJealousandWorried · 23/01/2007 11:54

Thank you Ladymuck-if they can fit us in-that's where we will go!

X post-will check out the Vineyard although now dd is here won't be spending what you did!
Those were the days....

Pennyhill Spa is WOW, I'm going in April with best friend. There is a ballroom pool with music?!! Can't wait to see what that is!

They have some offers on at the mo. www.exclusivehotels.co.uk.

If not Whatley Manor is lovely.

DH and I are trying Charlton House soon, Somerset, they have an offer 2 nights for the price of 1, if you eat dinner there. Sounded great to us! It has wonderful food and a lovely spa, I have booked my treatment already.

PeterJones · 23/01/2007 13:12

The grove isn't as erxpensive as some of ones that have been mentioned on the thread............

SickJealousandWorried · 23/01/2007 13:25

The Grove would be easiest for us to be honest but have only been for drinks and dinner which were VERY expensive.
Also seems a bit up it's own exhaust pipe or full of corporate bods-will have another look though.

I have been recently with 3 girlfriends to get away from children and husbands. It was great. They do a really good weekend package that includes dinner and breakfast. We thought it wasn't bad value

Ladymuck · 23/01/2007 16:05

Whatley is fab, but isn't that near unless you are on the west side of London. Would be my number 1 recommendation if you don't mind the distance. It is so lovely...

SickJealousandWorried · 25/01/2007 16:30

Well we had the most fabulous time at Pennyhill Park-and given that I am not really big into spas-this was outstanding.

Desperate to go again next week but they are fully booked.

Can highly,highly recommend it.

Whatley looks fab-just a bit further than I want to go at the moment.

Thanks fo rall your recommendations.

brilliant, that's great to hear! (That you had a great time, not that it's fully booked!)

Did you have any specific treatments?

SickJealousandWorried · 25/01/2007 17:15

I had a Paudi head massage which was lovely and DP had a body massage.
Be warned though-treatments are very expensive and it is very easly to get carried away-we did and it was just what the doctor ordered
