Holiday in Scotland july

We are going on holiday to Scotland in July. Looking at the weather I think it was a moment of madness. Have a baby who would be 2 month old then and a toddler. What should I buy them clotheswise. And any tips for the holiday. We are staying in fort William

Wellies and raincoats for splashing in puddles and rock pooling on beaches. Fleeces are great for layering up when it gets chilly and light enough to carry around.

Should I pack their winter jackets?

No, it's not quite that bad. It's protection from the wind and rain you'll be needing, not really the cold.

And on the bright side, rain will help keep the midges away.

Midge repellent - the midges are FIERCE at the moment!

If you're driving then I recommend stopping at Tiso, Perth. The cafe sells delicious food and they have a mini soft play (Tiso tots) which my children LOVE!

Def waterproofs and midge repellant! Though I'm not sure if you can get any for under 6 month olds - ask a pharmacist. And take antihistamine cream. My DD has just come back from doing DofE in that area - lots of rain and a fair few midge bites despite repellents (that was wild camping, so asking for it really!). But don't let that put you off, it's beautiful.

Midges are small biting flies and are a complete menace in Scotland at this time of year. One reason why we would never holiday in Scotland after the beginning of June.

A lot of people up here swear by Avon Skin So Soft to repel midges. But yes. Don't forget some sort of repellent and maybe some bite cream.

We're holidaying in Skye just now. Dd (4) and I have our winter coats and are very glad of them. The boys have hoodies and waterproof jackets and are happy with those too. You definitely need something waterproof and preferably windproof. The kids have been in their wellies constantly. Very happy. We haven't resorted to wooly hats and gloves though (although I did bring them).

Just look at the weather forecast for the part of Scotland you are going to a few days before you go, then you'll know what to take. Contrary to popular belief Scotland can get good weather and even heatwaves just like the rest of the UK.

Midges are not mosquitoes, they are really tiny biting flies that you tend to get in early evening and they can drive you insane. You generally get more of them on still days in damp areas, and less so on the coast and when there is a breeze.

They might put me off tbh. On one camping expedition, my butter was so full of then it looked like butter with herbs. They were in my lower eye line as well...

DS was due to be on an outward bound school trip to Wales last week and the most essential piece of kit per the school was a midge net to wear over the head. I got one from Amazon.
