Ok. Somrtime this summer, we need to take dd to see the reindeer that my Mum very kindly adopted her for xmas!

It's in the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre, Glenmore, Aviemore.

Last time I took dp to Scotland I took him on a tour of my childhood memories. Started in Aberdeen, went to Ballaer, Banchory, Braemar (Lin O' Dee, ski centre etc), Inverness, Fort William, Loch Ness and Ullapool... I think that's it!

I want to do something similar but obviously stopping by the Gelnmore park thing for a night.

Is anyone along this route and can recommend places to take the kids and nice/cheap places to stay?

TIA

I'm making a big list of all these places and will have to get a map out to mark out a route...can't wait!!

Been to Storybook Glen a couple of years ago it was pretty dire but DD loved it . Are you driving up because if you are and you plan stopping in Glasgow there is loads to do and all the museums are free

sonsieface · 20/01/2007 23:36

I have heard it is still going, would be twenty yrs since I was there too, end of school outing long journey from Angus, oh I would love to take my dd there just for my own pleasure....

bobsmum · 20/01/2007 23:37

I loved Storybook Glen.

Whatever happened to Santa Claus Land in Aviemore. Now that was quality family entertainment

bobsmum · 20/01/2007 23:39

Here you go!

Storybook Glen

zephyrcat · 20/01/2007 23:39

Sonsieface that's my reason too! I just want to take her to places I went to - winter gardens was another one with that stupid talking cactus, Spike - is that still there??!

I do indeed live there

landmark is very good, but expensive.

I'm off to bed now (if ds2 goes down this time) but will check back tomorrow

zephyrcat · 20/01/2007 23:42

Hi Wallace - thanks for popping in, hopefully catch you tomorrow

oh the winter gardens, there were chicks when I went and goldfish and wooden sculptures that I climbed on.......

sonsieface · 20/01/2007 23:45

storybook glen doesn't look like it has got any more sophisticated with the passing years, thanks for the link bobsmum

zephyrcat · 20/01/2007 23:47

Is there a big maze in Storybook Glen?

OP posts:
sonsieface · 20/01/2007 23:53

Pruni is correct about Aviemore, it's a dump, very overrated IMO.
Findhorn is great - good beach. lossiemouth has two great beaches as well, and some good pubs for food.
Landmark is good, but Wallace is right it is expensive.

seb1 · 21/01/2007 15:03

Never found the cinema in Aviemore but swimming is expensive as no public swimming pool you have to pay to use MacDonald Highland Resort or Hilton Coylumbridge.

VelmaDinkley · 21/01/2007 15:04

phone ahead to the reindeer centre to find the best time to go on the day, so you wont miss any trips up to the reindeers grazing land, otherwise ends up expensive for a small centre... Loch Morlich is good & so is the funicular railway & steam railway in Aviemore. A nice place for lunch is the Mountain Cafe in Grampain Rd (above ?glenmore mountain shop) does lovely food & kids meals too @ very good price..

Wallace · 23/01/2007 12:59

You could stay at the coylumbridge hilton think it does okay deals, and has a soft play area etc

the cinema in aviemore is not there anymore

my brain is blank at the moment (lack of sleep!), but if you have any questions just ask.

pruni - I am still intrigued about who you are! You mentioned your mum on another thread and I was thinking "ooh do I know her?" did you grow up in gos or one of the villages?
