What's there to do around Ledbury, Herefordshire

I have to pay the remainder for a holiday cottage there by tomorrow it'll be our first dog holiday and it'll be a bit of a trek to get there from our home in the NE.

I'm having a bit of a wobble it's totally unfamiliar territory for us and I'm worried there'll be not enough to do with the dog etc

Do any of you know the area and /or nearby and can give me an idea of what we could be getting up to around there to put my mind at rest

Or of course be honest if you think I've made a mistake there's still plenty of time for the owners to take another booking if we did cancel plus they'll have £150 deposit from us

Climb British Camp (fantastic for dogs and great views), Eastnor Castle, Malvern could kill an am and possibly something on at the theatre, Westons cider Mill worth a visit, Worcester has lots on if wet, do you have NT membership as lots of lovely places!

Ledbury itself is really pretty and has loads of independent delis & interiors shops (not sure how that works with a dog!). Can second Eastnor Castle, also Croome Park National Trust has glorious Capability Brown grounds. PYO is fun and Hereford an interesting town.

There are some wonderful walks around this area, head up too Hereford camp in the malverns the view is unbelievable!
When are you going it's the 3counties show soon and also the Bromyard gala, both run for a few days and are great country shows. Have a look at the Malvern show ground website there is always something on.
A trip too Hereford for a bit of shopping if that's your thing. There's loads of very good award winning pubs and restaurants in the area. How about going canoing? We take our dogs with us. If your into cars Morgan cars do a factory tour and cream teas.

You're all brilliant and have convinced me to pay the rest thank you! I'm poor as a church mouse after a week in Italy last week so I'm going to occupy myself this weekend putting all your suggestions onto google maps to get a better understanding of the area

Pick Your Own, as in Strawberries etc.
You could go a bit further west to Hay on Wye which is lovely and dog friendly.

Loved Tewkesbury . Nice walks by the river. Nice little independent shops.
Stratford not far, nice park with canals going through it and canal boats.
Evesham had nice park by river also

Theoc house in Tewkesbury did fab black pudding scotch eggs. Was our fave place to go on a night but we stayed in Tewkesbury.

I want to go back!

I can never have enough dog friendly pubs/places to eat. I do look at the Doggie Pubs website but some reviews saying the place is dog friendly are years old

lots of places to walk - the Malvern Hills, the herefordshire trail, small market towns (I live near Ledbury!) - realize you may already be here (sorry about the rain)

No not there till the last week of July so plenty of time to save everyone's suggestions

Goodrich Castle and Witley Court (both English Heritage) are lovely to visit and allow dogs.

British Camp is my favourite of the Malvern Hills. The cafe by the car park has a fabulous ice cream selection, but take a flask so you can sit up on the hills and enjoy the view. Check the online stock watch before you go just to be sure the sheep aren't up there.

I love Tewkesbury, and you could take a boat trip there. The fish and chips is good from the shop on the high street.

If you like pretty towns, try Pershore - the Angel pub does good food and is dog friendly. Theres a lovely walk called the Three Bridges which takes you along the river and through a nice nature reserve.

What sort of things do you like doing?

Loads. Good children's centre that did nice activities. Hellens manor is worth a visit, too.

Oh, and if you like the sound of the scotch eggs Dowser mentions, you can buy 40 different ones from The Nest just outside Ledbury.

Mollie, I go to their shop in Worcester to buy the gluten free ones, and was discussing it with my neighbour who does some work in Ledbury each week and goes to the organic shop and she told me about the Nest

Thank you all saved on google maps my dd are 13 and 11 so deffo moody Margaret's who would spend all day on YouTube in the cottage if I let them.

I can get them to go on walks I'd say 2 hours max if it's literally just a walk ie no NT property or shops as an additional distraction

To keep them happy I'd say I'm better off with places were there's a bribe available ie an ice cream van on a hill walk, cake at a national trust, a pub lunch round a market town etc I'd be kidding myself if I tried to get them to walk just for walkings sake

That's better for me as well as I'm buggered if I'm making picnics and whatnot everyday

They're no longer into parks or anything esp the older one.

Would they like a Segway trip? The Cob House is in a nice setting, and the cafe is pretty good. Stalk Groupon for a discount - I've seen them fairly frequently

Have a go at canoeing?

Worcester would be good if they will want some shopping time as theres a few places you could eat outside with the dog and the cathedral is lovely - you can walk along the river which is pretty as well

There's also Forest of Dean fairly close, lots of dog walking, Puzzlewood is nice!

The sculpture trail in the FoD is fab, and turns a walk into something much more interesting. You can cycle from Beechenhurst lodge as well, and my dogs love running alongside on the family trail. Cheesy chips are good at the cafe
