Whitby in the rain for a week with kids and a dog.

Going camping tomorrow, forcast not good. Dc are 10yo and 15yo.

Plan was to go walking but looks really wet tues and weds.

But then dog curtails where we can go indoors.

We'd never even dared take naughty ddog into a pub until we had to on a cold walking holiday. She was very good and it's been the making of her. Do you have decent walking to and weather gear?
And finally, there was a poster many years back asking for ideas in Whitstable I think- she posted again nine months later...

We've got waterproof coats but not trousers.

I guess at least if it's not hold dog can stay in the boot (have a big estate) as long as it's not a dodgy area and I can pop and check on her. I'm fairly blasé about taking her in shops as long as they don't sell food.

Theres quite a few dog friendly pubs in whitby. If you can be bothered with the drive scarborough is dog friendly. Allowed in arcades etc.

Pickering and eden camp are both dog friendly. Cappalmans chippie in pickering lets dogs in.

Staithes isnt very far also very dog friendly as is sandsend.

Im about half hour from whitby. Weve had no rain today. U might be ok.

Lovely pub on outskirts of whitby called cross butts. Not sure if dog friendly but if warm enough theres oots of seats out the back. Might be nice to visit for lunch.

Arrghh sorry all coming to me at once. Large indoor play area at ruswarp called mini monsters if youre.happy with dog in car. Have a miniature railway close by we took our dog on. Also a farm called beacon farm in ruswarp that does ice cream. Lovely. Few bits.for kids to do / explore.

I was in Whitby today, it was rammed, Found the coolest thing - a lift from the top of the cliff to the beach. It was 60p and it's a proper lift - you press a button at the top and an actual lift comes and takes you down through the cliff to the beach. You can rent a chalet at the bottom and dogs can go on the beach so even if its raining a bit you can stay warm and dry with the dog while the kids are on the beach.

I could recommend a fairly nice b&b in scarbrough if you need it. If kids love arcades and fair rides will be a good day out if nothing else but lots of sea front cafes you could stop off in for a coffee glass of wine.

Sands end and staithes also have dog friendly pubs serving good home made pub grub. Theres two or three down the bank in staithes.

Sands end has some along the sea front. I cant remembee what its called but we definitely eat in one in sandsend with out dog. Not a great deal to do there tbh but if u like walking might enjoy it. I actually think you can walk to whitby from sandsend.

I've heard of this lift but never been in it. Apparently it has a concrete floor? Not quite sure how that works!

Just thought if you are driving saltburn is also quite nice for a visit. Little arcade there and crazy golf. Lots of dog friendly places to eat too. They have some victorian gardens and a victorian cliff lift if youre into that kind of thing. Some nice shops too an art gallery (i think).

Great walks in Dalby Forest, which would be a bit more sheltered.you can take dogs on theN York Moors railway - if the NYMR trains aren't running to Whitby this week, get the normal train to Grosmont. So jealous - love Whitby in every weather.

Arcades aren't my idea of fun but guess the kids would love them.

I hate them too. With the kids being that age i would send them in whilst i went somewhere else. There is a big arcade in scarborough where they have like a hollywood bowl on the top floor. Dogs are allowed in there. Also have a balcony looking over sea front you can sit out on if like me you hate arcades.

The arcade at saltburn is on a much smaller scale. Its on a victorian pier and only a few machines really.

If you ventured over to pickering there is a foot golf course there too your children might like. Eden camp is great.

There is an absolutely beautiful beach for dogs (and humans) in Filey, but I was last there in April so better check if dogs are still allowed in MAy/June.

FIley is small and enchanting too. I just checked for some puns quickly. Here they are. I am sure there are more.

Weather is terrible. It's too wet to even walk round whitby. Haven't left the caravan yet. Too windy to drive home.
