I am looking for somewhere to stay that is quite handy for going to Tobermory on the ferry, and other places around - Oban is one possibility - but any other good ideas? Needs to be suitable for a 5 year old and a baby!

wemys bay?

KristinaM · 16/01/2007 20:48

tobormory is a long journey from everywhere. especailly with a 5yo and a baby

are you planning to stay on Mull?

Skribble · 16/01/2007 21:50

Oban is ideal, sealife centre to visit there and loads of different types of accomodation. Ferry leaves from Oban for Mull so makes sense.

Tralee park one of many.

Wemyss Bay is miles away handy for Isle of Bute perhaps, but a 3hr drive for the ferry to mull.

err, fraudulant me, not actually from west coast of scotland, but been there! we like Isle of Cumbrae, Mill Port looks like Balamory stayed at wemys bay.

brimfull · 16/01/2007 21:52

Largs is a lovely town, might be too far away from tobermory for you though.

Miaou · 16/01/2007 21:54

Well I live a 15 minute ferry ride from Mull (I can see the ferry from my window!) but when you get to the other side you have a 30 minute car journey up to Tob - and though people come to my village for holidays it's not really got a lot to do for little ones (it's very isolated!)

Tbh you might be better off on Mull itself - there's quite a bit to do there - rather than make a day trip with such tinies.

KristinaM · 17/01/2007 23:46

oh miaou, do you live in lochaline? [ nosey emoticon] I know it cant be iona as ferry isnt 15 mins and its a LOOOONG drive not 30 mins to tobermory. and kilchoan boat goes into tobermory itself i think???

wotzsaname · 17/01/2007 23:58

Heaven on earth - especially if it is a sunny day.

Visit Tobermory, but stay a little further out. Everything is so close. Did the ferry form Oban....oooohhhh i want to go again.

expatinscotland · 17/01/2007 23:59

Hope it's not all under water by the time of your visit.

noseynora · 18/01/2007 00:01

Connel is nice and also close to Oban, there is a few places to stay around there. Nice bit of coast too, up to Port Appin if you're also wanting a look around while you're up there.

Good website.. www.undiscoveredscotland.com has some accomodation links which might be helpful.

wotzsaname · 18/01/2007 00:01

is that climate change or are you talking short term, we went in early April 2 years ago, long weekend and it was cloudy on arrival then it cleared up. Did have some rain, but took wellies and still went out. Lovely.

Skribble · 18/01/2007 00:10

I spent a week in a cave on Mulls south west coast, both weird and magical week, pre kids needless to say.

andyrobo237 · 18/01/2007 19:59

thanks - will have a look at your suggestions!

I second Tralee Bay. IN laws have caravan just nearby - we're up there loads - and friends of ours stayed in a static at Tralee one year. Chalets look most comfy too if you've got the extra cash.

Very peaceful. Lovely sunsets (dependent on cloud coverage)
