Ideas for holidays in Yorkshire?

We are wanting to go to Yorkshire this summer with a almost 2 year old and a 3.5 yr old. Not sure I can cope with camping with a toddler in case weather is bad but any suggestions/ ideas/ tried and tested place s to stay or things to do would be very welcome!

Lots to do on the east coast.
Stay in robin hoods bay... nice little village between whitby and Scarborough. Very quiet and idyllic. It used to be used by smugglers. It's in the north york moors national park and if you travel a bit further inland and you have the gorgeous moorlands. North York moors steam railway where some of harry potter was filmed. And of course you e got the usual seaside trappings and tack in Scarborough and a more low key but lovely place of whitby (the abbey is gorgeous)

How about primrose valley (a haven holiday) in Filey it's really close to the beach, loads of entertainment, parks, not fair from town at all been for the past two years always had a great time skipping this year though to save for Dlp!Grin

Any preference as to which bit? Some lovely bits of coastline which could be a good base for days out. East Coast (and inwards) you have some good days out for little ones - Sewerby Hall, The Deep, Burton Agnes, Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Eureka children's museum is brilliant, but over in Halifax, I think.

I've picked up ideas from here before now. little-vikings.co.uk/ It's York based, but some good ideas.

I'd stay in a decent caravan with toddlers, but I wouldn't camp either.

That looks lovely. Am having a Google of accommodation - we are in Northumberland so not far for us. Weirdly I never think of the coast when I think of Yorkshire but this is very pretty!

We like to stay at the New York Public Library in Richmond North Yorks. Near lots of things to do and there's a good castle to visit in Richmond.

The house is so beautiful, I start to panic about leaving as soon as we get there!

If Filey makes it to your short list next to Primrose Valley is The Bay. Gorgeous little cottages which we love with DS as it's like hone from home. We have stayed at Bumblebee Cottage there a few times and is perfectly set up for children with games etc.

We're coming to the end of a weeks stay in Whitby in a self catering apartment. DS 2.7 is loving it. The weather has been beautiful. We've been to the beach, on a tour bus, to the north Yorks railway to see a steam train and today we're going swimming at the leisure centre. The town is gorgeous and there are loads of reasonably priced self catering cottages/apartments.

Things to do with in an hour of York are, Doncaster wildlife park, railway museum, eureka, there is a fab softplay with outdoor area in York called creepy crawlies, Harewood house, stockeld park, flamingo land, fountains Abbey, Brimham rocks, for beaches we go to Saltburn. All of these have been tested with under 5s and they love them! You have also got the moors and the dales which are great for picnics esp if you find a stream/river :)

Castle Howard is lovely.
Fountains abbey also a good day out.
Plenty of nice places to walk like Dalby forest. There's a good visitor centre on the North York moors as well, Danby.

Bit further west Forbidden corner at Leyburn is good but you must book well in advance.

Place marking!
One day I want to have a good long visit to Harrogate, it looks like the Bath of the North, and Castle Howard has been calling to me ever since I saw "Brideshead Revisited" in the 80's. Of course Jeremy Irons was the main attraction there...

We did a Yorkshire holiday last summer and stayed here: woldsedge.co.uk/
Was lovely! (with a great pub in the village) We did a few things in York itself and some lovely walks around. There's a model village in Bridlington called Bondville, great for wee ones. Peasholm park was nice in Scarborough too and Castle Howard is wonderful, but perhaps the house a bit much for younger kids? Nice grounds and a small play park though.

We stayed in Filey too. Can't remember the name of the houses but it was up the road from the Haven one.

Loved it. Would go back in a heartbeat.
