cottage on beachfront anywhere UK

I'm planning on going on a cottage holiday anywhere in the south UK, completely open to suggestions. I'm going with a friend, also a single mum and her daughter, so there will be 3 DCs and 2 supposed adults. I like the idea of opening the backdoor and the beach being right there....but I could be living in a dreamworld. If anyone has stayed in such a place in the UK then please could you let me know where it is?

We stayed in a basement flat on the Isle of Wight that was below ground level on the road side but opened into the beach on the beach side. It was a few years ago though - Google "onthebeachiow" Smile

Oh Thorny it looks perfect! I've just left a message with them to check availability. Thank you so much.

Good Grin I wasn't sure how important the cottage bit was! We had a lovely week with the in laws and our then 3dc - I think dc3 was a baby so we are probably going back 8 years Shock. I keep thinking we should go back!

once stayed here with some friendsNorton Haven Penbrokeshire it looks like its been done up since we were there but couldnt be closer to the beach.. (its a bit out of the way though good for rock pools , horse riding walking etc , a pub nearby , but you'll definately need a car ) .

that IOW place is in Sandown , its a fairly busy typical seaside town.. though there is a train to get there and lots of seaside-y things to do with small kids .. .. is that what you are after?

Another place you could try on the Island is Steephill Cove..

oh its the right website, but doesnt show the house on that page.. we stayed in Beach Cottage

Laska5772 · 27/04/2016 19:46

Actually I think it could have been Brooklyn cottage .. (they are next door to each other!) was a great holiday with the kids .

Ooh thanks Laska find out tomorrow if they have availability at IOW one. I think they may be fully booked though Sad so your recommendation may well come in handy because yours look just the ticket too. Thank you so much.

Steephill Cove IOW (I believe staying actually inthe houses in the cove is pretty pricey though) . But would you consider a static caravan holiday? There are quite a few sites on the coast on the island.. Ive never been to any though ( as live here)

Btw Rosy.. Norton Haven is quite a long way from anywhere.. I think Haverfordwest was the nearest big supermarket.. car is absolutely essential and kids will definately have to love nature and outdoorsey things ( ours were 7 and 10 when we went ) but the beach is fine for swimming..and you can do horseriding on the beaches nearby

We once stayed in one of the Burgh Island Causeway apartments in Bigbury, Devon.

Right on the beach, we could leave the dc's there and watch them from our balcony. There is also a pool and gym in the complex.

We rarely holiday in the UK, but this was absolutely perfect (helped by a week of hot weather).

I've never stayed here but would like to as it's on one of my favourite beaches:

Not cute looking but as close to the beach as you can get.

You don't say what your budget is, so this may be way too much (and too long a journey), but this is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. We went with my Grandma when she was in remission from cancer. It's full of beautiful memories for me.
