Parking on Bristol

Just wondering where would be a good place to park in Bristol? Having a day out there and don't know the city. Thanks

Where are you planning to go for the day?

There are park and rides on the city outskirts, or several multi-storey carparks in the centre, all of which cost about the same. The most convenient for you really depends on where you are coming in from and where in the city you are planning to go. There is no free parking anywhere near the city centre any more - it is all residents' parking only.

Thanks for your ideas. We'll be arriving from the southwest, but not really sure where to go. I was thinking of Clifton and also dock area and city centre. Don't mind paying for parking but don't really know a central one. Previously ended up in a pretty dodgy seeming car park not very central.

Cabot circus is safe, and not any more expensive than others. It's city centre, OK for harbour side but not near Clifton. You'll have to walk some distance to access those 3 wherever you park. For Clifton you will struggle as mostly RPZ but there is a multi-story by the triangle top of Park Street. I think it's pricey.
I'd think about where I wanted to spend the END of my day and park there, so big walk at the start if you see what I mean.

There's Wapping Wharf park behind the M-Shed museum which is pretty big and cheap. Or the multi storey at Cabot's Circus.

There's a multistory behind the college green which is probably pretty central to all 3 areas you want to visit (which is quite a lot to visit in one day!)

My advice would be to park at seamills station (free on road parking nearby if none at the small station carpark). Get the train to Clifton Down, turn right to walk into Clifton Village on straight on to go to go down Park Street into CC and the docks. Take the train from Temple Meads back to SeaMills. All down hill walking and return train ride from the bottom.

Agree with pp about where you're going to end your day. If Clifton (great for food) then you'll need to think about walking back to wherever you park or moving your car up there before you eat, as the maximum parking without a permit is 3 hours. Otherwise there's parking by the MShed or the SS Great Britain and loads of multi-storeys in town (think about hotel parking too). But if you eat outside of Clifton village itself and just go somewhere on Whiteladies Road, you could park up by the Downs.

If in centre by waterfront you could do millennium square but it gets busy at weekends

I am not sure if it has re-opened, but the Millennium Sq car park was closed for a while recently due to a fire.
There is still some parking at Wapping wharf, but the site is being redeveloped so you are very close to a major building site! There is no longer any access to this car park by car via the Prince St swing bridge which is closed to traffic (open for pedestrians and cyclists only).

Millennium Square car park reopened in late January. I think that one is more expensive for all-day parking than some of the others.

If you park in the centre of town (Cabot Circus etc) there are buses going up to Clifton (mainly the 8/9 route). Or you could park in the Clifton Down shopping centre car park, just off Whiteladies Road, which is about a 10-minute walk to Clifton Village, similar distance to the Triangle (shops/restaurants/museum) but also handy for buses going down to the centre and Cabot Circus.

Didn't know they'd opened Millennium Square again! @Bristol emailed everyone to say it was closed, you'd think they would have done the same to say it was back.

It is very expensive though.
