Cairnryan or within 2 hours- where to stay

Going to book ferry from Belfast to Cairnryan for 6th June to 10th
We are 2 adults, 6 year old and 2 year old.

Ideally would like to stay within 2 hours drive of Cairnryan as have a long drive on the way home on final day of trip.
Looked at Craig Tara Haven Campsite but some of the reviews aren't great
We went to France in 2013 camping so maybe would like similar or selfcatering cottage.

Any recommendations?

You won't stay in Cairnryan, that would be madness, though there are caravans around there. Hoseasons have holiday parks at Sundrum Castle (Ayr) or Southerness (Dumfries) though I've not stayed in either. Have stayed in a nice cottage in Maidens recently, it is a very quiet place but handy for Ayr (the kids attraction next to Craig Tara is actually very good - heads of Ayr it's called).
