I'm beginning to wish I hadn't let myself in for this... but I've agreed to go to a family do early Jan and told dp he didn't need to come. I also hoped someone would be able to put us up, but that's only true for one night. so I am looking for somewhere to stay on the way up and the way down, preferably Northampton and preferably not too far from the train station as that's how we will be travelling. If anyone has any ideas I would be extremely grateful!!!

We used to hunt the Which? B&B guide online and have found some lovely child-friendly places in the past, but they seem to have removed it from the website, oh well.

Have you tried a travelodge? They're cheap.

Yes and you know what you are getting.

Railway station is 9 minutes from Travelodge according to Googlemaps. I've stayed in Travelodges for work in the past year and they're basic but clean and pretty ideal for you and 2 children I'd say as their family rooms have a double bed and a double sofa bed. They have £15 and £26 deals on atm but even full price is usally only about £50-60

Hi there. I recently stayed with my daughter at a youth hostel and it was great! Don't know if there's one near where you're going, but they are generally within walking distance of train stations. The one I went to provided breakfast and 3 course evening meals, which were excellent. My daughter loved being in a bunk bed and we had our own room with ensuite shower. Have a look at the YHA website. Some are closed over the winter. I found it best to phone up the actual place to book-worked out cheaper than booking on line.

hotel ibis (sol central) is about a 5 min walk from the station i think that is a bit like travel lodge i would say it would be 9 mins in a car on a god day
