Places to eat in London

Who can suggest some nice places to eat in London for me and OH? I'm looking for a nice (but not mega expensive) restaurant in central London and maybe somewhere nice/a bit different for afternoon tea. Thanks!

I booked the criterion at Piccadilly via Amazon local, and it was fabulous.

Clos Maggiore in Covent Garden is amazing and not £££.

Onsera3 · 17/12/2015 17:26

Clos Maggiore is really romantic for a couple. Not sure if that is too pricey for what you had in mind?

I tried to book Clos Maggiore and it was already fully booked for when we are there :-(

Gauthier Soho

Angler in Liverpool St. It's fantastic!

Pret a portea at the Berkeley is good. We had lovely afternoon tea at the Connaught as well. Browns and the Ritz I wasn't so struck by. The Ritz is just too touristy.

I like Bam-bou on Charlotte Street and Cafe des Amis always used to be good in Covent Garden. Hix is also great (drank far too many martinis in one Grin)

Set lunch in Gauthier Soho, fantastic value

PseudoBadger · 17/12/2015 21:04

Needs isn't it! We go for the 3 course lunch with 2 glasses of wine and 1 of champagne for £40, such value for a Michelin star, great service and extras throughout. He's a bloody nice guy too.

Damm! I've just tried to book Gauthier for lunch and there's no availability for when we are in London. Thanks for the recommendations though - it looked great! :-(

Arbutus in Soho is great value and beautiful food. Their set menu is £25 which I think is excellent value.

For something a bit different you could try Yautcha for modern dim sum. It's stunning.

Berners tavern is lovely but might be a bit expensive - (worth it for the macaroni cheese though!) otherwise Pulpo is good (tapas) or Jin juu (Korean). If you go to Jin juu try to get a reservation in cahoots-london.com/ afterwards for cocktails - it's brilliant!
