Edinburgh fringe festival

How busy is Edinburgh during the fringe?

I'm vaguely thinking on going to Scotland on holiday next August, and would like to go to Edinburgh as part of that. But is it essentially unbearable all through August, or is it just a bit busier than usual?

I think Visit Scotland estimates that the population of edinburgh doubles during August. It's madness but I love it.

Very very busy, but it adds to the atmosphere.

You could consider staying on a train line into Edinburgh- eg Glasgow, Stirling or East Lothian.

agree- Edinburgh at festival time is z fabulous place to be.

I found it unbearably busy this year for first time in my life, having lived nearly all my life here. It was almost impossible to walk down the street in some places and the fringe bar areas were far too crowded. We didn't enjoy it this year.

It's crazy busy. It's lovely if you're not working and trying to get somewhere in a hurry!
Really nice for visitors and really great atmosphere.
