Can anyone recommend a Hebridean Holiday?

Thinking of trying the Hebrides next summer - change from France. DD fancies seal spotting!

Anyone been & can recommend anything?

Been twice - camped first time (prekids) and hired a cottage last time. Cottage option good if the weather is bad! It's one of my favourite places, fabulous beaches, scenery etc. Anything specific you want to do there?

Not strictly the Hebrides, I believe, but we stayed in this cottage on Skye a couple of years ago and had the most fantastic holiday. The cottage is quite simple but pleasant inside, and well-equipped. It has a private beach just below the cottage (I don't think the beach actually belongs to the cottage, but we certainly never saw anyone else all the time we were there) which was perfect for all-day beach pootling sessions. We saw a seal from the beach itself, as well as lots of birdlife, we picked mussels from the beach as well and cooked our own seafood pasta!

Lovely. The children maintain it was the best holiday we've ever had. And compared with renting an equivalent cottage in the south-west of England it was incredibly cheap.

YES !! we went to Harris and Lewis in June - it was the coldest they had known for years with gales from the north - but it was great. The kids keep asking if we can go and live "on holiday". Wonderful beaches - clean and empty, wonderful scenery and wild weather.

We have also been to Skye, and to the north coast around the Kyle of Tongue.

This year we are going to Colonsay - really getting away from it all

Baille-na-Caille, Isle of Lewis has a wonderful hotel child friendly and they feed the kids first for dinner whilst adults eat brilliant food later. When we went 6 years ago, they also had a cottage to rent. Do a google search and look at their website. It's not cheap but it's fantastically located.

We had a wonderful week in South Uist in July. The weather was fab and we were on the beach most days. We were lucky on this front as it's not unusual for rain every day!

I have registered with a few sites who send you a recommended itinerary. Want to tour as much as poss, taking in beaches & wildlife. Island Hopping!

DD wants to see a Dolphin or seal - would make her year! Glad to see no bad reports from anyone.

Nearly fell over when DD suggested Scotland as she has been angling for all inclusive Hotels on the Med up till now!
