I really like underthethatch.co.uk, especially since it has some really good value last minute short stays in lovely places. Can anyone recommend other cottage sites that do the same?

It isn't thatch, but forty years ago we stayed at the Danescombe Mine, via the Landmark Trust:

www.landmarktrust.org.uk/

They have just about every kind of 'house' possible. On their site, search 'Danescombe mine' - it's at Calstock, near Plymouth, and it was a tin mine 'engine house' - as in Poldark!

www.cottages4you.comp.uk is very good (UK and a few other countries) if you know your dates because they only show what's available. Used them twice and been happy.
ownersdirect.co.uk is similar. Only once and had a problem getting our deposit back from the owner.

www.cottages4you.co.uk sorry.

two great, area-specific ones are
cottages North Wales, which used to be Nefyn holidays

and Eastgate, in N.Yorks.

Hoseasons are great. Very efficient and some good deals to be had out of season.

We've used Cottages4you and Sykes several times - both have some lovely cottages. We usually find Sykes a bit cheaper. Depending where you want to go Kent and Sussex Cottages is slightly pricier but with some beautiful properties. On the subject, does anyone know of holiday cottage rental sites which have cottages in Home Counties, nearer London, which do not sleep 67 people and don't cost £0000000's?

IsabellaofFrance · 26/08/2015 17:52

I like Sykes too. Cottages4u are good and are currently running a £25.00 deposit promotion.

Thanks I will take a look at those. Particular like North Wales and North Yorkshire.
