Landsend - what to do, see, where to park etc...

we are staying about 30-35miles away and fancies taking our ds age 10 along to see "the end" of England.

I keep reading about a visitor centre etc. but really we just want to go have a look take the obligatory photos bite to eat on the way back etc...

Any advice?

My advice would be not to bother! It's very tacky and expensive. You have to pay to go into the car park and it's all beyond the barrier. My advice would be to go to sennen cove which is so pretty. Or Minack theatre which is stunning. Both much nicer.

If you want to go to Lands End however it is a real tourists trap. Parking is all easy, massive car park.

Oh and the lands end sign costs to have your photo taken there.

yes I agree with what your saying but think we'd still like to go to see then as we do Cornwall each year we could then go to Sennen etc... next year...just want to go and see really also DS would be an experience for him

You can take a picture with the sign in the distance, but you have to pay to actually stand next to the sign, plus pay for parking. There is quite a nice walk round the headland, but it is all a bit tacky. We went just to say we'd been.

yes that's what we thought we'd do just go see, take photo, walk around, nice lunch on way back. So what is at Sennen???

Yup. Someone mentioned £10 to take a photo next to the sign.

I live nearby. I've been thinking of knocking up a replica sign, setting up near the SW Coastal Path and offering a cut price photo opportunity. The coast all looks the same round there anyway. What do you think? Is it a goer? Grin

Sennen cove is Lands End, but slightly round the corner and free!!!!

it is tacky, but do it if you want. Then go to sennen cove and watch the waves crashing. If you are in that area I do recommend Minack its breathtaking and non tacky. You don't need to see a show, it's a theatre cut into the cliff, by one woman. It's open daily, have a Google. They have a webcam.

Park at Sennen cove (pay n display local council car park ) walk along the cliff top footpath a mile or two to Lands End. Admire the view, take a photo, use the visitor centre loo, check out the play ground. Walk back to Sennen Cove, buy a pasty and and ice cream from the cage opposite the lifeboat station. Look round the life boat station, spend some money in the rnli shop. Spend some time on the beach.

Put some money in the local economy but not in the coffers of Lands Ends current owners.

If you ate interested in going to the Minack, check out their timetable of lunchtime and morning family shows and story telling . we took 8 yr old DS to see two family shows there last summer, cost us 2 adult gift aided daytime admissions,( so about £10 total). For a family of 3 to see 2 high quality pieces of children's theatre and look round the auditorium , gardens and exhibition. Its very good value for money.

Geevor Tin Mine was another good day out, I expected we would be there a couple of hours, but it was most of the day to look at everything, try panning for gems, go underground, talk to the staff about how machines worked and really have an in depth visit.

So where are you staying 35 miles away?

Porthcurno has the Minack Theatre, but was also the site of the first Trans Atlantic cable, so really started the "communications revolution". There is a Telegraph Museum, which should be good for DS.

A few miles to the east, Treen and Logan Rock are beautiful, and excellent cliff-top walking all round there.

you can walk to lands end from sennen. Its a spectacular walk. You didnt used to be able to drive it when I used to holiday in cornwall as a child, so we always walked it
