Is it unrealistic to try to book a self catering holiday in Dorset for under £ 500 in August?

We are wanting to go to Dorset for the week (15/8/2015). There are 2 adults and 1 child. We don't want to spend a fortune. Would we be unrealistic to think we can get something at short notice for around £500?
Can anyone recommend any nice areas or reasonably priced accommodation please??
Thanks.

If you use cottages4you you can use £30 of clubcard vouchers to get £100 off your weeks holiday.

Lyme Regis is lovely but probably not the best base with a toddler. Weymouth and West Bay are better suited for children. Weymouth will have more possible accommodation choices. However, I think you will probably be looking at trying to get a last minute deal.

the problem isn't so much your budget but the fact that you are trying to book with a couple of weeks notice in school summer hols. everywhere has booked out really early this year because of the gove changes. do you have any flexibility at all. could you go at the end of august/beginning of sept as you might have more luck then. I would get on the phone tomorrow and ring the tourist information centre in the area you want to go. they are usually bang up to date with availability and usually very helpful.
