Snowdonia walks with children?

We're off to Snowdonia in a couple of weeks, DH and I have been before and walked up Snowdon but I don't think the DC (6 and 8) have the stamina yet!

Can anyone recommend any nice circular walks (2 to 5 miles) in the area? Would be nice to get up a hill or two but nothing that involves scrambling or has hard-to-follow paths!

Not much help as we take Gold DofE groups there so a bit too challenging! But of this list, the first area (Aber Falls path) is pretty, and the Cwm Idwal walk in the Ogwen valley is lovely.

There are some great walks you can do!

Moel y Gest is near Porthmadog and a nice little hill with great views.

Aberglasyn Pass - we walk from the car park at one end to Beddgelert, have lunch and walk back. DS walked back on the higher route last time.

DS did Cadair Idris via the Pony Path when he was 6 years old - it's not too long and easy to follow.

Precipice Walk near Dolgellau also lovely.

DS walked up from Ogwen cottage to Llyn Idwal the day before his 3rd birthday. You could extend this by walking round the lake too.

There's a lovely one walking around the Llyn Gwynant lake. You can start at the campsite and cross the bridge, up onto the mountainside past some caves, along the bottom of the mountain quite high up through the trees, over a bridge, through a bluebell wood and then following the lake back along the path next to the road. By that time the campsite should have their pizza van open most days from 5pm and you can also hire kayaks if you fancy it.

Aber Falls

Is lovely, take a towel and have a paddle.

Lots of little walks in Dinorwic Woods above the lake in Llanberris, above the a Slate Museum.

It is further away, but Bala Lake has nice scenery and walks. Also a miniature railway runs the length of the lake. And there are several other narrow gauge steam trains in north Wales, and of course the train up Snowdon itself. It's lovely to sit on the train and see the view opening up! (I have walked it as well).

Llyn Mair near Maentwrog, Blaenau Ffestiniog is a fantastic spot (www.visitsnowdonia.info/llyn_mair-248.aspx.) You can take the trail around the main lake or there are plenty of additions. The kids can jump into the upper lake (Hafod y Llyn) if its hot.You can take the Ffestiniog Railway (starting in Blaenau Ffestiniog is easiest for parking) and stop at Tanybwlch Station (www.festrail.co.uk.) You could then go on to Porthmadog on the train if you fancied this.Brondanw Arms in Llanfrothen and Oakley Arms in Maentwrog are decent child friendly pubs nearby.
