Best family hotel in Cornwall

Does anyone have any recommendations for a family hotel in Cornwall? Looking for something with an indoor pool and sauna preferably and either a good restaurant or within walking distance to pubs/restaurants.

St Moritz hotel across the Bay from Padstow should tick your boxes.

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 21/05/2015 21:10

Looks lovely Ruby but no rooms available for our dates

Didnt bedruthan steps get some, er, odd reviews on here? I'd do an advanced search on here maybe Future!

PixiePuffs · 21/05/2015 21:22

Depends how old your children are. Bedruthan steps is great for babies up until age 10 ish.

PixiePuffs · 21/05/2015 21:26

Bedruthan steps did get a lengthy thread from an OP unhappy with her connecting family room. I think there was an issue with the door. She complained about the view over the car park. You can pay a bit more to get a sea view of course - we've stayed there 3 times when DS was 4,5 and 6 years old and had a fantastic time. Tripadvisor should give you a more balanced review than threads on MN...

Fowey Hall is great too, not quite as many facilities as Bedruthan but smaller and you can walk in to Fowey which is lovely

DarylDixonsDarlin · 21/05/2015 21:34

Oh hell was that the 'live' thread? Lady was posting as it happened? Confused

Yes I agree trip advisor should give more recent reviews from a wider range of people Smile

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 21/05/2015 21:37

I looked at Fowey Hall, Sleeeep, and it looked great but was fully booked too. Tripadvisor gave good reviews for Bedruthan Steps for families so I'm going to risk it. Thanks everyone.

OP, Bedruthan Steps is THE best family hotel in the UK imo. We've been there 6 times with our dc of varying ages. Sadly they've outgrown it now Sad but we've had some fab holiday there.

When are you going?

Dancergirl · 22/05/2015 10:24

Also, the beach at Mawgen Porth is lovely, you can walk down from the back of the hotel. Quite steep on the way back up though! The views over the bay are amazing especially when the sun sets.

Bedruthan has changed quite a bit over the years since we've been going. It used to be quite formal - children eat at children's tea and no children in the restaurant in the evening. It's now much more flexible and relaxed, children can eat early or with you in the restaurant. There is a small outdoor pool (heated) which is a sun trap and a larger adults' pool (unheated I think). Lovely indoor pool too and a spa. Fab children's entertainment every evening.

We stayed at the Headland Hotel years ago, where Roald Dahl's The Witches was filmed. Great fun, great for kids.

Dancergirl · 22/05/2015 10:28

Couple of things you should definitely do - go to Padstow, about 15 mins by car. Usually very busy but nice to wander around. You can do a cycle ride along the Camel Trail - hire bikes in Padstow including trailers and tag-a-longs. The cycling is very easy, off road and flat and there is a cake stall half way along to Wadebridge.

Also - about half a mile up the road from the hotel is Carnewas - National Trust land. Park in the car park and walk down to the beautiful and secluded beach, you can see the actual Bedruthan Steps which are huge rocks. At the top there is a shop and a lovely cafe which do amazing cream teas.

Sands resort jislinked to Bedruthen in some way and has everything you've listed - we loved it there.

AlwaysWashing · 22/05/2015 10:42

I would recommend The Headland at Newquay too. Lost count of the times we have stayed there pre & post children. The Spa and facilities are really lovely and the restaurant child friendly.

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 25/05/2015 19:46

Thanks for the tips Dancergirl, we'll definitely try the cycling and Carnewas.

Hotel Tresanton is fabulous

I know friends who love Watergate Bay

Driftwood looks fabulous

Heels99 · 03/06/2015 00:13

Driftwood is lovely, but no pool, stayed there couple times
I like watergate bay hotel best out of sands, bedruthan and headland but have only visited them, lunch etc k not stayed over. Bedruthan has a bit of a holiday inn feel.
