Anyone been to Guernsey - and will I be able to get around okay without a car?

Dh won't go on holiday for more than 7 days during the summer holidays (workaholic), but is happy for me to take the dc (11 & 12) off for a few days to top up on our 1 week family holiday.

I am thinking about Guernsey for a 4/5 night short stay. There are direct flights from my local airport....

It's a fairly small island - will we be able to get around satisfactorily without car hire? I am happy to rent bikes.

Thanks

DH and I went last year and found that there was a good bus service. Cycling possible though we found the generally narrow roads were very busy with cars (loads of Chelsea Tractors). Check out the bus time tables and the Green Lanes for cycling/walking. Southern coastal footpath is lovely and with planning you can do linear walks and get bus back at the end.

There is a good bus service right around the coastline of Guernsey both clo kwise and anticlockwise. There are good buses through the centre. Just make sure your accommodation is on a bus route. There are some green lanes through the countryside good for cyclists horses etc that drivers usually avoid and the speed limit is 20mph. You could easily do it without a car and I think would enjoy it more, parking can be a problem in St Peter Port. The airport is well served by the buses.

For something a bit different you could get a boat to Sark that has no cars, I am guessing you could hit bikes there. Tourist info should be able to advise you.
Enjoy the beaches and cliff walks.

I live on Guernsey ( and don't drive a Chelsea tractorSmile)

I would agree that you could easily get around on the bus so stay somewhere on the route - either in St Peter Port or maybe Cobo Bay if you fancy being by a nice beach . You can go to Herm and Sark by boat from Town v easily . Come it's lovely here Smile post here or PM me if you have any queries .
