Any recommendations for nice holiday cottages in N Yorkshire?

That's it really. Coast preferred. 3 or 4 bedrooms, with space for kids to play. It's not somewhere I've ever been before!

Whitby is nice (I used to live there) - lovely beach and interesting small town, good fish and chips too.
Scarboro is a lot bigger and tackier (IMHO).
Filey is much smalle rand quieter. Villages along the coast (Staithes, Runswick, Robin Hood's Bay) - picturesque but not much in the way of facilitites.
Sea is F cold even on a hot day btw. In case that bothers you!
(sorry no reccs for particular cottages - have never needed to rent as used to have a flat there )

I live in Harrogate and its beautiful round here with the Dales on your doorstep plus York etc a mere 20 miles away.

Dont know any cottage links but thought I would put in a bid for this area as its so lovely!

cottage site looks quite good. I personally would watch out for cottages on the East side - if you are at the bottom on the 199 steps or in Henrietta Street you have a good 300 yd walk with your luggage from the car.
West cliff might be better - there are a couple on here in Upgang Lane which is spacious with good parking; also Cliff Street is nice with lovely views. Depends what you want really.

We've just booked a cootage with 'Premier Cottages' in Yorkshire. It's sityated on a farm with indoor pool, pets corner and lots of mod cons. We haven't been before but it sounds great!

Ooh pretend friend that's nice. I like Steeze (as it's called locally). Wouldn't really say it had a beach tho. Nice pubs/restaurants h/ever and very picturesque.

I suggest Harrogate which is where I live (or find a cottage thereabouts) - gives you access to lots of fab bits of Yorkshire and plenty of civilisation on your doorstep - but then I'm a bit biased as we have to relocate and I'm already missing this place in anticipation! You and your sprogs cannot get bored here. There is Brimham Rocks, Harewood house, York (et al), the Dales, the Moors, Leeds, Xscape, Eureka, lots of soft play centres, Harlow Carr, Bettys for essential sustenance, fabtastic walks on a low or a grand scale and sooo much more. By the way HarrogateMum, where do you live? kids at school? do I know you maybe?

I found out the other day that Happisburgh in Norfolk is called Haysborough locally, and St Austell in Cornwall is Snozzle!

Nice cottage in Pickering here, Wordsmith - not sure if that's too far from the coast for you but it looks very sweet and is a good price, I think. Only 2 bedrooms though (beds for 4 plus z-bed plus sofabed) and bring your own bedlinen.

This one was lovely, just outside Harrogate.

We stayed here near Pickering. A bit of a way to the coast but good for touring the whole area. Has swimming pool, tennis court, sauna, children's play areas, games room on site. There is another complex near Pickering with similar facilities which seemed good for children (also in English Country Cottages at Beech Farm, Wrelton)

Laskill Grange nr Helmsley has got lots of outside space for children to play, there is a river nearby too.

From there you can do Scarborough in an hour, steam train at Pickering, Helmsley, lovely walks, horse riding.
