One night away for DH's 40th - recommendations in SE

DH will be 40 in August and I thought it would be nice to book a night away. We still have small DCs so it's harder to do a full weekend yet.

Can anyone recommend somewhere special to stay that's not too far to drive from Gatwick?

Alexander House Hotel in Turners Hill is very nice, have stayed there a couple of times and always had good service and a very special time. Not too expensive either for what it is and often have special deals on to include spa and/or dinner.

Ashdown park hotel. Has a spa, golf course and very friendly staff.

Hotel Du Vin in Brighton (then you can have a night out - the Gingerman restaurant is v good) The Spread Eagle (honestly) in Midhurst I think and as PP said, the Alexander House Hotel is v good
