You can come and visit me I'm on Portland, Weymouth is only a short bus journey. all day tickets on the bus are £3 and weekly tickets £11. I can gather leaflets and bits for you if you like

Im personally prefer Weymouth. lovely clean beach and loads to do. Have an area for water sports if you like that sort of thing. Punch and Judy on beach. Great shops, golf (pitch and put) sealife centre, skatepark, all within walking distance. has a good bus service too. Dinosaur museum and monkey world are a drive away but lots of coach trips are organised from a travel shop over the road form the beach. Also Chessil beach and Portland lighthouse are worth a visit if kids are tall enough to go up it.

Are you camping or caravanning? We stayed in a caravan at The Waterside park, which has lots of entertainment and an indoor pool.(well 3, toddler pool, swimming pool and slide and pool) the use of this was included in the price.

You can also visit Lyme regis, Lulworth cove, Portland bill. See where the 2010 olympic sailing will be held

I want to go to lyme regis next time. isnt that where you find lots of fossils?
Lulworth cove was nice but lots of walking up a very large hill to see Durdle Door(or did I go the wrong way)

Mya I join in here please? We are looking at Weymouth for next summer and would love a recommendation of a nice child friendly hotel please. Preferably with pool etc.

You can find fossils pretty much anywhere around here if you look carefully. I found some around Sandsfoot castle. Thats a nice ruin to go and look at before it falls into the sea. The Nothe fort is interessting - I remember enjoying it when I was younger, Weymouth carnival is quite good to go to in the middle of August. Portland castle is lovely - thats where I got married.

Depending on how fast they are at walking, half an hour will be more than enough, especially if you walk along the Rodwell trail from castle cove and not via the road.
The harbourside houses are lovely, a few minutes wander and you'll be in town. Let me know if I can be of any help.

You would deffo be better staying on the harbour. You are close to the town and can take a little rowing boat over. You are very close to the Nothe and its fort. you are 5 mins wak away from the timewalk. There is also a diving museum and soft play centre opposite. You can take a boat trip, go the beach, upwey wishing well, bowling, portland bill. Oh I am feeling homesick.

can i join in too...? am having a devil of a time trying to find a really nice self catering cottage/house, in dorset with 5-6 bedrooms... which isn't incredibely overpriced... but also doesn't look like it last had the decorators in in the 80's...

anyone help... looked at all the usual self catring websites... helpful hols/rural retreats/national trust etc .. but having absolutely no luck...

does such a house exist???
