We are Londoners.

Getting the train up.

Where in the city should we stay and where to visit (I hear you were culture capital of the UK in 2008).

Malmaison on the waterside is nice

This is from today's paper.

It should give you some ideas. As for activities, what sort of things are you into?

paneer · 06/02/2015 21:50

we like performing arts and wine bars :-)

And during the day walking and cultural stuff and arts.

Will look at Mal. Other hotels?

Is the Cavern CLub v tacky?

Cavern club is awful and is just a 'repro' of the original.

jonicomelately · 06/02/2015 21:54

I would recommend getting tickets to watch Educating Rita at the Playhouse. I believe it's going to be a brilliant production.

Hope Street Hotel is a lovely boutique-y hotel, but Posh Pads (apartments you can rent by the night, hotel-style) right in the centre might be useful if you're a group?

Thanks for all the comments. Just found out the weekend we plan to go to
Liverpool if the weekend of the Man U game.

I am thinking we should miss that weekend - we are not football peeps and hotels will be pushed up?

Not necessarily. Manchester is only down the road and most Man U fans just drive back home there afterwards. Some pubs may be a bit rowdy but certainly not all. Wouldn't put me off.

Cavern club has to be done. Wipe clean and Beatles impersonators but fun for half an hour.

It's a great city. Went in 2012 ?ith the kids, would be great for an adult weekend.

Afternoon tea in Panoramic, 34 floors up
Tour of Anglican Cathedral, magnificent building
Mooch round Liverpool One just to observe scousers
Walker Art Gallery and Tate
See what's on at Everyman or FACT

I love Liverpool. It's a bit gritty but it exudes warmth and character. It stays with you.

threepiecesuite · 09/02/2015 23:53

Hotels:
Indigo is nice with Marco Pierre White Steakhouse attached
Premier Inn in Albert Dock is well located and lovely old building
Malmaison
Hard Days Night hotel if Beatles fan
Titanic hotel nice but bit out the way

CurlyhairedAssassin · 09/02/2015 23:53

LOL at "mooch round Liverpool One just to observe scousers"

Ah. Naice visitors. Grin

You want Hope Street. Stay at Hope Street Hotel. See something at the Eveyman Theatre at the other end of the street. In between is stuffed with wine bars and restaurants. You have a Cathedral at either end as well. Get a cab to the Walker Art Gallery and then walk a few steps the new Library. (Be sure to see both the new and old parts.)

You may also want to wander around the Docks. Tate Liverpool and the Maritime Museum.

The shopping won't set you alight after London but the Harvey Nicks in Liverpool One is fun. And there are lots of good places to eat.

And do not miss the Anthony Gormley sculptures on Crosby Beach.
