Where to stay in London?

Hey all

Looking to spend a few days in London later this month with my 6 year osd son. Was thinking we would visit Natural History Museum, Science Museum, London Eye, Tower of London, Hamleys and I'm not sure what else! But, where to stay? Kensington? Looks very expensive! Am coming over from Switzerland and I don't know London at all!! Any advice on where we could stay, which areas? Its so difficult to gauge from the map!

South Bank , there is a premier inn near the London aquarium and several eateries.

If you can get in premier inn they are good value but often booked up. Holiday inn express also similar. Somewhere on south bank would be handy for underground lines you'll need and cheaper than Kensington!
