Hi, we're looking for a semi active weeks holiday in this country with a 10 and 12yo - wouldn't rule out the odd day on the beach, but would like other stuff to do either onsite or nearby like rock climbing, swimming, tree trekking, sports etc. Or just good attractions nearby not geared to toddlies.

Ideally like CParcs but without the ££££££££. Happy to be in caravan, accomodation doesn't have to be fancy. Based in Midlands so anywhere in England or Wales do-able, but Scotland too far.

Please does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

Hi there, We are just looking to book a family adventure with a provider called JCA Adventures in Shropshire. Our friends have been there last year and they highly recommend it. Reasonable prices and I believe they are doing an early-bird special too. You can find them at www.jca-adventure.co.uk/family-venture.
Hope it helps.

We've been on two family holidays run by the Field Studies Council and had a fantastic time with both. The last one was this one in Snowdonia, there was climbing, gorge scrambling, a long mountain hike, can't remember what else but we had a great time.

They've got various centres across the UK, the other one we went to was at Dale Fort. Accommodation at both was similar to youth hostel family room standard, not fancy but fine, food again nothing fancy but plentiful and good (and included endless supplies of tea and cake).

Last summer we stayed at Celtic Haven just outside Tenby. It has tennis courts, table tennis, indoor pool & 9 hole golf all free & just turn up to use (we were there in Aug and only once had to wait for a tennis court). DH & DS age10 loved coasteering which we booked through a specialist outfit. Surfing is popular on the bigger beaches down there too.
