Lake District cottage recommendations?

MakeMeWarmThisWinter · 12/01/2015 15:50

We are hoping to rent a cottage for 5 days or so over Xmas 2015 in the Lake District. We need 5 bedrooms -

Me and DH and newborn
4yo DS
Couple 1
Couple 2
Single person

Any recommendations? Had a gander on Holiday Lettings and emailed some owners for quotes and the first one has come back at over £1500! Shock we could fly everyone to Spain for that. Although with a newborn that's probably not a great plan...

Would appreciate any wisdom.

We stayed here about 2 1/2 years ago and it was lovely, a bit isolated but peaceful and relaxing (as a group of 30 year old's with no kids can get). We would go back.

I think that's about usual for the house that size (4+ beds?) in that area.
We've been looking for similar for almost exactly the same set up.
I don't think you could all go to Spain for that money, actually!

That's only about £150 per person - not too bad for a nice place in the Lakes. Christmas and New year do seem to be fairly peak times for tourists in the Lakes (used to live there and the pubs/restaurants were definitely more full with strangers then!) so I wouldn't hold out much hope of getting a bargain I'm afraid...

You could try www.sallyscottages.co.uk who are a family-run agency in Keswick with a lovely selection of cottages in the lake district over christmas and new year. Prices are higher at that time of year though.
