Northumberland is nearer but is Glentrool worth the extra distance? I get the impression it's more beautiful scenery? More wildlife?

Glentrool is beautiful. As is the Rhins peninsular slightly further west.

Thanks. The photos do look beautiful and I'm thinking it probably is worth the extra travel. Will check out the Rhins peninsular as well.

I'm from Galloway so completely bias but great walking locally and good range of options across the region. Plenty good places to base yourself near Castle Douglas / Kirkcudbright / Wigtown and lots of choice (Southern Upland Way, Moffat hills etc) it is unspoilt and beautiful and you'll handle see a soul out on the hill!

Thanks Dotty. I was looking at a caravan site on Loch Ken which looks nice. Thought I'd be closeish to places like Clatteringshaw loch and Glentrool.

Galloway is much much nicer than Kielder, imho.

Another vote for gorgeous Galloway.

Loch Ken is ideal location for what you want. That site has gone from strength to strength too (if it's the one I'm thinking of!) Go for it! X

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to it. Peace and quiet for a week. Me and the dogs, nice walks and some good books!
