Thinking about a self catering house in Cornwall for next summer?

We think we would like to have a UK holiday next year and are thinking abot going to Cornwall. We're coming from Glasgow so its a long drive, so we'd like to stay probaby for 2 weeks. Deffo self catering! We would be there in the first 2 weeks of July (thanks to the Scottish school hols being a bit earlier than the English ones) - but how crowded would it be then? Doesn anyone have recommendations of places to stay - went on a family holiday there once adn stayed in Port Isaac which I remember being very quaint, but dont know where else there is.
And what to do with kids there - ours will be 7, 5 and 3 by then.
Thanks a lot - just thought we should get moving on this in case all the good places are already booked up.

For good beach and untouristy I would recommend Portreath. we stayed there in May half term and it wasn't packed at all then - not sure about early July tho9ugh. Powells do nice cottages

we have just stayed in an apartment managed by niche retreats thanks to reading a recommendation on here. They have such extras as taking delivery of, and unpacking, a tesco online order. Would definitely recommend. We stayed in Porthleven which was lovely and quite close to a lot of the places to go to in cornwall.

Early July should be much quieter than later on (and I am v of all people with Scottish school hols and cheap accommodation!)

Lots of good places are already booked for the English school hols but you should be OK for yours. What you really have to watch in the small cute Cornish places is parking - you can rarely park near your house and sometimes you can't even drive down to it (DH once got in a terrible pickle in St Ives and bashed our car doing a 23-point turn when he got stuck)

could you fly to Newquay form Scotland and hire a car?

PretendFriend you can take advantage at the end of the summer when scottish holidays are finished and get a cheaper holiday up here .
