Nice hotel for weekend in the Lakes with children

Have posted in weekend breaks too, but thought this topic might get more traffic....

I know there are lots of threads with things to do in the Lakes, which I've found. But I can't find anything recommending nice hotels in the lakes.

We want to stay near lake Windermere, preferably towards the south but can go North towards Ambleside.

We usually stay in The Swan in Newby Bridge which we love, but it is fully booked the weekend we want to go.

We looked at the Whitewater Hotel but they didn't have any sort of baby monitor service in the evening so we could go down for a meal. We have now booked Rothay Manor near Ambleside but not sure about it. We would like somewhere with a pool and Rothay only has use of a pool at a nearby place rather than its own pool.

We do want something nice rather than just a b&b or self catering. Budget around £160 per night.

Thank you!

If you want to go North, I can highly recommend the Cottage in the Wood - it has been a little while since we have been there as they don't accept young children. The food there is fantastic - chef used to work at the Savoy.

Sorry, it doesn't have a pool though - but has great walks into Whinlatter Forest and Buttermere lake is quite close.
