To an autumn one, and I am stuck! My ds who is 2 gets very carsick, do we try not to drive too far, but south coast is ok but not Cornwall or Kent (too far we are in Wiltshire) as is South Wales. We would ideally like a self catering place, with at least 2 beds, and somewhere where there is quite a few things to do not too far away. We have done Lyme regis before, and that was ok, but feel like exploring somewhere else. Any ideas anyone? It would be a week in October and want to spend probably no more than £600 ish. Over to you!!

Forest of Dean or is that too close to you ?

amyhamster · 15/08/2014 07:44

Or Hastings, Brighton
You could go by train

Isle of Wight provided a ferry won't make him too sick - it's v exciting for small children as feels like a big adventure. And IOW has lots of child friendly activities.

Purbecks and swanage are great for little ones, lots to see and do. Lots of caravan parks for around that price. We've stayed at 'lookout park' which is very quirt but lovely near wareham and sandford which is a bigger Parkdean site. I reccomend 'Farmer Palmers' , Corfe Castle, steam train to Swanage.

IOW is a brilliant idea! Will look now , thank you! Forest of Dean may be too close I think, but it is beautiful !

Narrowboat on the Avon and Kennet canal?

blueberryboybait · 15/08/2014 07:59

What about Woolacombe?

We stayed in Lymington one year and did a day trip to the IOW for dinosaurs.

Would second forest of dean or the Gower - I get horrendously car sick too even driving sometimes. IOW ferry often too much for me (Lived v close so often went over) unless I was up on deck

Purbeck may be another option if its straight down from you

when I was small my parents sometimes got me to the holiday destination by taking me by train while the other parent drove down with my siblings

I do feel for you - as a child I had my head out the window almost constantly- even coming home from school (less than 2 miles) in other people's cars could set me off.

IOW's brilliant but the ferries are expensive, might be better outside peak holiday times, might be worth signing up to their emails to get offers (Wightlink from Lymington or Portsmouth, Red Funnel from Southampton).

I agree about Puebeck/Swanage too, then there's the New Forest / Lymington area.
