Opinions please on suitability of Sandy Balls with a 22 month old child. We are looking at staying in one of the lodges. Is there plenty of room in one of the lodge bedrooms for a travel cot? Are any facilities currently closed/affected due to the redevelopment? What sort of food do the restaurants have for todders (is it all chips and beans?).

Any advice or information greatly received - thanks!

Hi Car25. I've had many holidays at Sandy Balls (hence the nickname!). We stay in the lodges and there is plenty of room in the double bedroom for a travel cot, not much room in the twin rooms though if both the beds are occupied. I took my twin DDs there when they were about 18 months and managed to get two travel cots in one of the smaller rooms (and put the beds up against the wall).

The pub/restaurant food isn't great to be honest, the usual nuggets and sausages, shep pie etc - ok for the odd meal but far nicer to walk to the local pub. It's only about a 10-15 minute walk and is at the edge of the New Forest so very pretty and you get ponies and cows wandering into the garden. The food there is lovely and there is also a little playground for the children.

Not sure about the redevelopment, didn't know about that as we tried somewhere else this year - similar sort of thing in Weymouth but not as nice.

It's a great place for kids, lots of lovely flat walks and very scenic and unspoilt (I hope their redevelopment doesn't ruin that!). The pool is great and they have activities for children (not sure if that is just during school hols though).
Loads to do in surrounding areas too - we will be booking for next year very soon.
