Things to do in Northumberland?

I'm very excited about our holiday to Northumberland and would welcome recommendations for good places to visit with a 3 year old and an 11 month old.

Oh, I love Northumberland.

The beaches are amazing, best I've been on and generally fairly quiet.

There are lots of lovely castles to visit, Warkworth is pretty, Dunstanburgh is a nice walk form the village, Bamburgh is lovely and then there is Alnwick which is very nice.

Lindisfarne is amazing and definitely worth a visit. Watching the tide come in and the causeway closed off by the water is great. We saw seals off the coast too on Lindisfarne.

It's fairly large, where will you be staying.

Agree with previous poster re beaches and lindisfarne.

We aren't long back from a camping weekend near berwick and visited seahouses, you can do boat trips to see the puffins and seals.

Kielder water is fab too, especially the birds of prey centre.
Great flying displays and lovely lovely people at the centre, you could easily fill a day there alone

Saltwell park in Gateshead.
Open air paddling pool and nice shopping in Morpeth.
Gorgeous beaches all over.
Alnwick Gardens.
I love South Shields for great fish & chips, beach, park with little steam train and amusements.
Wheelbirks icecream parlour near stocksfield.
Allen Banks near Haydon Bridge for walk, paddle, picnic.
Corbridge for a mooch about.
I live in Northumberland and have two small boys and that's what I like to do.

Cragside (National Trust) is worth a visit, lovely gardens etc, lots of room to run about and I think there's a play area.

Circle, we'll be staying near Netherton.

Seeing puffins is on my to do list but wasn't sure where is the best place for them.

The beaches are amazing, miles and miles of clean unspoilt sands, especially Bamburgh with Bamburgh Bangers and Swallow Fish scallops on the BBQ. Buckets and spades available from The Farne Gift Shop in Seahouses, and don't forget your sunscreen - it gets warm in Northumberland believe it or not! Alnwick Gardens is a blast for wee ones - advise to take spare clothes and don't forget to try the Treehouse! Highly recommend "Keeping Calm and Trying Barter Books" in Alnwick for lunch and a second hand story to take home. Ford and Etal worth a trip for the light railway, and if a train fan, the Aln railway also sweet. Great pool at Seahouses for littlies (The Ocean Club) and close to a lovely soft play (The Bunker) which has crazy golf too, and delicious whole fish bites for the kids. Ice cream at Wyndenwell to die for, and Bitasweet in Seahouses full of mum and dad's old favourite sugary snacks. Rock-pooling at Beadnell worth the effort, and boat trips from Seahouses to see the seals, dolphins and puffins on and around the Farnes are not to be missed. Fresh air, open spaces, gorgeous beaches, wonderful hills and countryside. Combine all this with great local produce such as Doddington's Cheeses and local ales from The Northumbrian Hamper, family friendly restaurants such as Elan's in Seahouses, or The Lord Crewe or Mizen in Bamburgh, plus five star luxury accommodation - a good night's sleep is pretty much on the cards! If you go to Lindisfarne, walk round to the beacon? - a sort of white triangular thing and head down to the beach behind it - it's idyllic on a nice day.

I'm really pleased to have stumbled across this thread as we go to Northumberland this week. we are staying in Wooler in our own tourer. I'm excited! I have two boys so hopefully the castles will be a hit!
