We are going to IOW (Ventnor) just for 2 days (one night) this weekend. Will be rubbish weather I think but just wondering if anyone can suggest nice pubs/restaurants...

Have of course checked the archives - but all the info is what to do with kids - and happily it will just be me and my lovely dh for the weekend!

My dh is from the IOW. When we went to stay last month we stayed in a hotel on the Ventor front called the Hamborough Hotel. It was lovely, they also have a fantastic restaurant, a bit steep, £35 a head plus wine, but the chef trained with Gordon Ramsay. The food was fantastic. the creme brulee was well worth the money on its own.
I don't know their number, but they do have a web site. You can look out over the sea from your table.

The rooms are good too. A huge stand alone bath (room for 2)and power shower, with molton brown smellies, and bath robes and slippers. for reakfast you could have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, french toast and bacon or trad. english. Just the place for a romantic night away.

Don't go to 'garlicworld' or whatever its called - unless you really really really love the smell of garlic......

Used to live there and just come back from a weekends camping there. Go to the Seaview Hotel in Seaview for a meal - haven't been for a few years but used to be good. Spyglass in Ventnor is good - I had seafood chowder there last weekend for lunch and was delish. Usually I have crab there but was sold out. HUGE portions. Lovely views. Had good mussels in Baywatch on the Beach in St Helens they were yummy and again lovely views. If you geocache can reccommend the lungbuster as a great walk - about a 2 hour round trip, starts in Godshill. Food at Chequers in Rookley is great but may be lots of kids around - if you go there take a cardi as it is always very windy.

We had a great pub meal at The Steamer on the seafront in Shanklin(I think ; not very good at remembering places) The portions were huge and great quality.
