Hotel near Holyhead Port?

Coming over from Ireland in early August. As we'll have driven from the tip of Clare to Dublin, then the ferry we don't think we can do the London leg without an overnight stay.

Criteria, relatively near the port, but not necessarily right next to. Maybe half an hours drive. Quite cheap, but not skanky. With family rooms. Need parking.

I know there's a Travelodge, is it OK?

We stayed in the Travelodge in Bangor, about 30 minutes away on the other side of the Menai Bridge. It was absolutely fine, and there was a Little Chef next door for breakfast.

I think there's one in Holyhead too, but the town is a bit grotty.

We have stayed at the Travelodge a couple of times and will probably stay there again this year. It's clean, only problem we found was no TV remote. Can I just ask, as I have done the trip many times, why you are not going to Rosslare and then Fishguard?

Travelogue in Holyhead is fine, right by the port, used it many times on route to Ireland. There is another Travelodge outside Bangor which is fine, 20 mins from getting off the boat. There are also several Youth Hostels in North Wales/ Snowdonia which may suit you for a family room.

Have stayed here. Decent sized rooms and accommodating owners. Good breakfast and minutes from ferry.

There's a Travelodge and a Premier Inn in Caernarfon. Both next door to each other and right on the quayside and a short walk from the town centre/castle etc. Much more pleasant than the Travelodge in Bangor which is a drive away from anywhere - though I guess if you only want somewhere to rest your heads before setting off again it would be fine.

Ok I think I'll look at Caernarfon, fancy at least a pootle about the next day.

Normally would do Rosslare, but the ferry times don't work out. To be honest, the drive time probably evens out anyway.

There are 2 new hotels in Caernarfon (Travelodge & a Premier Inn). Plus the Premier Inn in Bangor. All 3 lovely!
