extended family summer hols - where to go?

I want to arrange for a holiday with my dh and kids plus my brothers and dws and kids this summer. It would be approx six adults plus five kids. Some of the family are in Scotland and some in England, so because of school holidays we have just three first two Weeks of August to play with. Can anybody suggest somewhere nice, quite cheap and bug enough for all of us? It could be almost anywhere inEngland since we are write spread out and we would have to travel anyway. Kids are all under ten years old. Thanks :-)

We had a great long weekend at Sandy Balls in the New Forest. I don't know what their summer prices are like. Choice of camping/cabins, but you'd need more than one cabin, but they can allocate ones together on request.

They have nice camp sights in the new forest if you like camping. We often take the kids out on bikes there and you cycle through/ past really nice camping areas ( I'm just not brave enough to camp yet!) and as self employed we rarely get a completely free week without the need of wifi/ conference calls hence we stay in the hotel

Thanks, just looked at sandy balls, it looks great. especially because there's a variety of accommodation so different families could work to their own budgets if necessary...but wondering if I'm booking too late to get anything, can't even persuade the website to offer me August as an option to book! Thinking I will look into other campsites in the area too. Thanks for the suggestions

Anyone got any ideas about places with cabins or caravans or cheaper non-camping accommodation that might be still available during the holidays? Have realised that terrible (and I mean terrible) hayfever its likely to rule camping out for some members of our family.

We have just been to this place with extended family :www.tripadvisor.co.uk/VacationRentalReview-g186367-d2122107-The_Manor_House-Ludlow_Shropshire_England.html and it was amazing, with loads of room for all of us, our own golf course and chickens, and incredibly cheap for the amount of space and quality of everything. Unfortunately it's only available for the second week of August - but maybe you could do one week somewhere else.

Shropshire itself was a bit of a revelation - extremely quiet even in Easter school holidays with loads of not too strenuous walking and some nice castles.

Forest holidays are another good option although their cabins are fairly pricey now during the school holidays. They have locations in Scotland, Yorkshire, Cornwall and I think the New Forest now.

Or we like the South lakeland caravan sites of Fallbarrow - which is within walking distance of Bowness or there's another one in the countryside - Limefitt that's nice as well.

This is great for activities the only warning note I would sound would be that the accomodation is 'basic' and the lounges have lots of wing back chairs (!) However loads and loads to do and all included or at a very small charge www.manorhousehotel.co.uk/

Broadgate Farm cottages. There is loads to do nearby in Yorkshire. We spent a week there and could have done with longer.

Turpins cottage outside of belper. My aunt booked this for us all. Delightful cottage. Belper isn't the nicest place but the countryside around is stunning, along with a few other towns/villages. Peak district is nice.
