Overnight ferry from Liverpool - can we keep the children amused before we get on the ferry?

We're getting the Birkenhead ferry across to Belfast, and taking the car. We're doing the overnight crossing, which leaves at 10:30 at night. We're travelling across country to get there anyway, so it's going to take us hours just to get to the port. I don't want to worry about getting stuck on the motorways in rush hour traffic, so would prefer to get nearby quite early. However, even assuming that check-in opens a couple of hours before sailing, what is there to do nearby that will keep a toddler and child amused? I can't see soft-play areas being open at 8 o'clock at night. Any tips from seasoned travellers? The only option I could come up with is the cinema, but that won't work with the toddler.

I don't think there is much in Birkenhead tbh.

We found naff all TBH. Which is why we now go all the way up to Scotland and get the fast boat.

How about 10 pin bowling? There is one in New Brighton which is about 10 minutes away. There are lots of places to eat as well. If you get there before it's dark you can have a walk along the prom. There is a soft play place but it closes at 6.

Thanks, it looks like it might be bowling, or dinner in a family place with soft play.
