I'm looking to go to Edinburgh in July. Does anyone have any recommendations on hotels? I want something fairly central but other than that I'm open to suggestions. It's just me and DH going.

DH syated at Motel 1 when he attended a conference, very central and not expensive, we are going fgor a long weekend in May ( as he didn't get to see anything when he was there) and we are going back to Motel 1 because he liked it so much.

The Tune hotel at Haymarket is basic but ok. Make sure you book a room with a window though - the windowless ones are too hot and claustrophobic.

There are hundreds of hotels- do you want budget or mid range or top notch- e.g. Premier Inn/ Apex Hotels/ Balmoral hotel. If you give us a rough £ per night idea then we can best advise. Parking is a nightmare in the city so either take the train or leave the car at a park and ride on the outskirts of the city. At the end of July you will overlap with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and as accommodation there is charging sky high prices, many people are looking at staying in Edinburgh and travelling to the games by train. Scottish school holidays begin on 28th June so the first two weeks of July are the time when most Edinburgh families go away on their holidays. It is before the madness of the Edinburgh Festival/ Fringe/ Tattoo which attracts hoards of tourists for the whole month of August.

Thanks for the replies. Probably mid range hotels I'm guessing between £50-£100 night but ideally closer to £50, although if they're gonna be busy then that may not be possible.
We'll be getting the train so don't need to worry about parking.
I'll go look at the 2 mentioned now.

The commonwealth games are in Glasgow in July, and there's an overspill to Edinburgh, so cheap accommodation might be tricky if that's when you're going.

I can highly recommend this apartment : we've stayed here a few times.very central and it has garage parking should that be an issue. Owners are lovely and the flat is smart and quiet.

For July even the Premier Inns are coming in at over £100 per night without breakfast so you need to manage your budget expectations accordingly. You might need to look at B&B's a bit further out of town and use the excellent cheap bus service. Have a look at Tripadvisor for hotel suggestions in your price range.
