I am coming from New York City with my sister for a one week vacation to London in early June. I am less interested in doing touristy things such as buckingham palace and instead would like to explore cool neighborhoods in London. Can you kind ladies please give me recommendations for neighborhoods and things to see while there?. Restaurant recommendations would also be appreciated as would recommendations for hotels no more than $500 a night. Thanks so much

Hey, soho is very central so perfect place for you to stay to be able to explore. Nearly all of London is accessible by tube and walking so you can get to practically all the places I and everyone else has suggested by tube. Have you been to London before ? For a countryside visit it depends what you want but if you don't have a car it will need to be accessible by train. Someone else has suggested Winchester which I know well as went to art school there and my in laws live there too. Takes about 1 hour train from Waterloo and you arrive in the city centre, the train ride takes you through some beautiful countryside. It is a Cathedral city and lovely high street but you can also walk through the water meadows and up st Catherine's hill for nice views over Hampshire. This will give you a glimpse of English countryside whilst being in a city still and close to train station. I would stay at hotel du vin bit if you do decide on Winchester book soon as it books up quick. The king Alfred in winch and the plough at sparsholt both do good pub food or the black rat or hotel du vin for more expensive food. Visit the cathedral and king Arthur's round table for history fix.

Thanks so much to everyone. I am considering going to bath as I am obsessed with Jane Austen. Is Bath doable from London in a day?. Winchester also sounds interesting and will look into that as well.

Isn't Jane Austen's house near Winchester?
