Bluestone V Centerparcs (Sherwood)

We love CP ( I know its not to everyones taste). had looked to go for New Year 2014 but its just ridiculous in terms of £££££.

Someone suggested Bluestone as an alternative (but they haven't been there)- ive looked online and it looks a bit 'sparse' for want of a better word. I wouldnt want to travel all the way to Pembrokeshire and then spend the days comparing it to CP. The plus however is that its literally half the price of CP.

Can I be convinced that bluestone is a good alternative to CP?

Who is going?
We went to Bluestone was great with a lo but pool is smaller everything is smaller. There are not the other indoor things to do like CP so depends what you want to do there. Accommodation nice. Less eating places.

We usually go to CP lakes ( we are similar distance to Sherwood) and decided Bluestone was not worth the extra drive unless using it as a cheap base for the beach which we are doing in May.

We've been looking at Bluestone too. My understanding is that it is 'sparse' in comparison to CP, but part of the point is that they encourage you to explore the local area as well, rather than spend quite so much time on site. I think the kids stuff looks really good. I have heard that it is quite hilly to walk around and buggies are expensive. I'm pretty sure we'll do it in the next couple of years.

Haven't stayed at BS, but have lots of family that way. It is a pretty part of the country and having last been there in September, DH commented it was very similar to Cornwall. I guess depends what you want, if you want to be 'out doorsy' and go exploring, could be a good option. Narberth is a pretty market town, and the. Beaches are lovely. NYE weather could be a bit unreliable, but then this is the UK. Up to you I guess.

Thanks for the replies. Gives me something to think about.

There would be 13 of us going. 6 adults and 7 kids with ages from 14 down to 1!

I prefer bluestone as it's easy to get off the site and it's really close to some fantastic beaches.

It's much smaller than centre parcs. The pool is nice but not as much to do in it.

I've been to both (Longleat CP not Sherwood though). I much preferred Bluestone. The pool is far nicer and less crowded (although as pp said a lot smaller), and the indoor adventure play area kept dd amused for hours. The restaurants are nice but pricey (no more so than CP though). There is less to do on site but it's really easy to get back to your car, unlike CP so you can explore the area. Folly Farm (check it's open over new year though) and Manor House are two local child friendly attractions. CP prices seem even higher than usual this year, Bluestone is much better value. It is hilly but we didn't find that a problem, you can hire golf buggies if you do.

Saundersfoot is lovely. I've only been there in summer though, I'm not sure what it's like in winter.

I love Bluestone. The pool is fab and the indoor softplay adventure centre is lovely. Dc were 4 and 6 when we stayed in May. We didn't do any of the paid activities but there was a wide range.

It is a beautiful setting and we didn't find it too hilly at all. Ride on buggies seemed very popular though but we prefered to walk.

We have also been to CP (Penrith) which we loved but we def prefer BS due to location.

Ok. I'm happy anywhere and the online reviews for new year there are really good. Kids will probably notice the difference between the pool there and the CP one though

Anyone used the Spa?

I havn't been to either, but two friends of mine are booked to go to Bluestone for the third time. The families have dc of 5, 3 and 1 and 8 and 10. Both families rave about it.

Yes we've done the spa .
Very nice and nowhere near as crowded as the bunfight spa at Longleat centerparcs .
Saundersfoot is lovely , every new years day theres the new years day swim .
That's always good fun to watch .

Not being able to get on a waterbed at the spa in CP really pissed me off. Selfish arses would stay on them for hours.

The indoor play area is excellent, Lego tables and a WII room as well. Have been told it is now included in the price.
