Weekend break ideas for December? Gower or elsewhere in Wales?

My DH is 40 in December and I've been trying to think of a good way to spend the weekend with him, DS (5) and the dog, going away Friday after school and ending up with his family in Herefordshire on the Sunday afternoon for lunch.

We're in Worcestershire / South Birmingham so I thought somewhere on the Welsh coast would be nice, maybe a cottage or B&B with log fires, windswept walks on the beach, fish & chips / pub dinners etc.

I've always wanted to go to the Gower peninsula so that was my first thought, although other ideas would be good too. I'm really after a recommendation for somewhere lovely to stay that's also child & dog friendly, and maybe one or two dog friendly pubs too.

TIA Smile
