Tigermoth URGENTLY needs to rent a self catering place in Kingsbridge town for 1 week early August.

Please can anyone help me?

My inlaws live in Kingsbridge (Devon) and want us to stay for a week in late July/early August. We were going to stay at their place but this weekend realised this would be impossible. FIL is now very ill with cancer.

Although the inlaws have a separate holiday apartment attached to their home for us, the general noise and commotion caused by us will be, understandably, too much. MIL is very preoccupied with looking after FIL.

So, I am on an urgent mission to find a self catering holiday let in Kingsbridge - not on the outskirts, but in the town itself. (I have been up since 5.00 am this morning seaching the internet)

We want to be within walking distance of the PILS home so individually, we can pop in to see them if and when they want our company.(FIL's illness is very unpredictable).

I have found somewhere, but it is not the most ideal place. Most other places are already booked up.

If you know of anything available at that time - for a family of two adults, two children (age nearly 7 and 12) PLEASE let me know asap.

(And I promise to wash the bath towels and hand towels daily and clean the skirting boards before we leave).

Thank you

can't help with a property but was wondering whether you could phone up the s/c places or maybe ask your mil as in the business if the owners are part of a network where they maintain their own vacancy list seperate to the tourist board. I know this happens in somerset and was the way I found something last minute last summer

I have been trying to find self catering places direct on the internet by google - is there another, quicker way? I will phone the tourist office when it opens today. Thanks for the reminder. My MIL does not rent out her holiday flat - it is for friends and family.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Tigermoth, I can't help I am afraid but just wanted you to know I have been thinking about you all. Take care, Winnie x

zippi great minds think alike. That apartment, so far, is the only vacancy I have found. I talked to the owners yesterday evening and will book asap it if I cannot find anything else. It is lovely but doens't look too child friendly (worried about balcony) and has no outdoors area at all - not even a tiny patio. I know the building well - it is very nearby PILs.

The Bowcombe bridge cottages look lovely ( dh and ds1 go fishing there). I will phone to check availablity, but have to consult dh and MIL about the distance factor.

Ks thanks for your thoughts, and Winnie too - you always seem to know where to find me on this. It really means a lot to me.

this is available the last week of july here

zippitippitoes · 03/07/2006 09:51

these don't show availability but you might have some luck ringing them if you haven't found this list already

I'm sorry you are facing such a sad time at the moment.

tigermoth · 03/07/2006 12:53

thanks again, Zippi - very kind of you.
