Can anyone advise where to stay near to Harewood House?

How near, pecka? Somewhere in Harrogate?

Is it closer to harrogate than to leeds?

It's closer to the outskirts of Leeds, but it's quicker to drive to Harrogate than into the centre of Leeds.
IMO Harrogate is a nicer place to stay, theres a lot of choice of hotels and guesthouses, it's only a 15 min drive away, and there is a regular bus to Harewood and I think you get reduced admition if you go by bus.
(ps I don't work for Harrogate tourist board! Just live there!)

Harewood arms - in harewood village, has rooms I think, linton hall hotel (v. expensive) in linton, (2/3? miles down road). google for b=b's in alwoodley - it's the closest suburb of leeds and pretty close.

ok, about to book this. Have decided to go with staying in harrogate rather than leeds. How much will a taxi to harewood house be from there?

not sure, but it's only 7 miles, so not too dear.
bus route is also easy and you get in for half price
